GreenBkk Formula 1 | Dennis: First title still the greatest

Dennis: First title still the greatest

Having spent 18 years at the helm of the McLaren team, Ron Dennis has suffered many highs and many lows, but rates his first Championship win with Niki Lauda as the highlight.

Dennis took over the reins at McLaren, and three generations of drivers before his exit from the sport in 2009.

During his spell with the British outfit, Dennis helped McLaren to seven Constructors' titles and 10 Drivers' championships. Having worked with some of the greats of the sport, speaking to Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat, Dennis was able to narrow his top drivers down to three.

"Mika [Hakkinen] I choose for his honesty, Lewis [Hamilton] for his uncompromising attitude and Ayrton [Senna] because of his passion," explained the Briton.

The best and worst moments in the 63-year-old's career, are surprisingly clear cut.

"The finest moment?" said Dennis.

"Of course I should say it was the last championship with Lewis, but for me it was the first one with Niki.

"The worst was when I had to go to a hospital in Adelaide after Mika's accident. There was a possibility that a driver had died in my car. Fortunately, that never happened," he added.
