Petrov gains Putin-backed sponsorship deal
Vitaly Petrov will receive further financial backing in 2011 from a Russian state-owned company.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin helped to broker a substantial sponsorship deal with Rostekhnologii, a high-tech business, which will support the countries first and only Formula One driver.
"Petrov, who is very famous amongst Formula 1 fans here, has just signed a new two-year contract and definitely needs support," said Putin. "Financial support most of all."
With the inclusion of Petrov on the grid, combined with the upcoming Russian GP in Sochi, planned for 2014, the sports reach is expanding rapidly, according to Putin.
"The number of Russian motorsport enthusiasts is increasing by the day," he concluded.
