Hamilton to debut new McLaren MP4-26


Lewis Hamilton will have the honour of being the first to put McLaren's 2011 challenger through its paces when it makes is on-track debut at Jerez.

Unlike many of their rivals, McLaren will not be using their new car at the first pre-season test in Valencia. opting instead to run an interim car and conduct tyre tests.

However, the day after the first test ends, 4th February, McLaren will head to Berlin, Germany for the launch of their MP4-26.

The new car is scheduled to make its on-track debut at Jerez on 10th February with McLaren revealing that Hamilton will be the first to put their new challenger through its paces.

The 2008 World Champ, who will alternate days of testing for the remainder of the pre-season action with team-mate Jenson Button, headed to Woking earlier this week as work got underway.

"Hey all, been at MTC today on simulator and training," Hamilton Tweeted.

"Car feels good, never know how others will be but I'm happy with where we are. We'll keep pushing."
