Lotus boss Tony Fernandes has confirmed India's Karun Chandhok will test for the team with a view to him signing as a reserve driver for the coming season.

"We would like him to be reserve driver but we've got to see whether it all works out, that's the plan," Fernandes told Reuters. "He is going to get a couple of slots in the testing now in Jerez and Barcelona and then we'll decide after that.

"Mike Gascoyne and Riad Asmat [ the Lotus CEO] and everyone else feel he's the right guy to add value to the team."

Chandhok was photographed with Fernades in Valencia earlier in the week but at that time the official stance was he was simply a guest of the team during the first testing sessions.

He started ten grands prix for HRT in 2010 before he was dropped after failing to bring on board the promised funding the struggling team needed so badly.
