Lotus could have as many as four reserve drivers this season, after F2 driver Ricardo Teixeira was given some track time last Friday at the wheel of the new T128.

GP2 drivers Davide Valsecchi and Luiz Razia will be given Friday morning runs in the car if they impress at Tony Fernandes' Team AirAsia this year. And Karun Chandhok is currently negotiating a contract to join the team in some capacity, most likely as a reserve driver.

Teixeira, who holds a dual Portuguese and Angolan nationality, has enjoyed financial backing from the Angolan national oil company Sonangol during his formative career in GP2 and F2, and is keen to get back in the Lotus cockpit as soon as possible.

"I am really pleased I could help out with the filming [of the car] and after my first taste of an F1 car I can't wait to have another go," he said. Technical boss Mike Gascoyne said Teixeira "acquitted himself well and that was exactly what we needed him to do".
