Virgin duo send best wishes to Kubica

Timo Glock has sent Robert Kubica his best wishes after the Polish driver was seriously injured in a crash.

Renault driver Kubica hit a church wall while taking part in the Ronde di Andora and suffered severe injures, including fractures to his right arm and leg.

The 26-year-old, who finished eighth in last year's Drivers' Championship, was put in an induced coma - from which he has now woken - and underwent a seven-hour operation following the smash.

He looks unlikely now to feature in the 2011 Championship.

Glock, speaking at the launch of Marussia Virgin's new MVR-02 car, said: "I was on my way to the airport when I got the message Robert had been in a crash and that it was bad.

"I just hope he is back as soon as possible.

"I know him quite well from my time testing at BMW when he was there and we've had a few good games of poker. I wish him well."

Glock's new Virgin team-mate, F1 rookie Jerome d'Ambrosio, also knows Kubica from a shared stint in karting.

At his first official engagement as part of the team, the Belgian said: "We wish Robert well, he's a good mate of mine from karting.

"You never wish that to happen and we really hope he's OK and back driving soon. That is all we hope for."

Virgin team principal John Booth added: "Robert is a fantastic race driver and a fantastic man and we wish him a speedy recovery."
