The 2WD option
The Pajero Sport 2WD _ previously equipped with a 2.5-litre diesel-turbo _ has also gotten the VG Turbo treatment but still maintains the old four-speed automatic.
Even so, with the prodigious 178hp and 350Nm on tap, the rear-wheel-drive Pajero Sport would certainly suffice on the move.
But as a faux 4x4, the Pajero Sport's vague off-centre steering feel _ which pays for driving comfort in off-roading _ could be a downside for those who only stay on the sealed tarmac. The Fortuner, in particular, has sharper on-road handling than the Mitsu.
But again, the Fortuner comes at a higher price. The Fortuner 2WD (3.0-litre turbo-diesel) is priced at 1.28 million baht. The price range of the Pajero Sport 2WD is 987,000 to 1.14 million baht (previously 962,000 to 1.08 million).
That said, the Pajero Sport is quite a bargain over the Fortuner for budget-tight buyers. No wonder the Pajero Sport now tops the monthly sales chart in the pickup-based SUV (aka PPV) segment.
