The upcoming rivals
Within the next 12 months, there will be two other brands joining Honda in launching all-new saloons for punters in the C-segment.
First up is Mazda's belated 3 due to be introduced next month on March. The second-gen 3 will come with the same 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrol engines as before, and also be available with a five-door hatchback.
As we found out recently during its first test drive, the new 3 it poised to become a more comfortable car to drive and sit in. The usual selling point would be the car's looks.
Early next year, Ford is readying the launch of the third-generation Focus. Like the Mazda, the Ford will come with four-door saloon and five-door hatch derivatives.
Although Ford doesn't have the rich brand appeal of most car players in Thailand, it has a unique selling point already found in the current Focus that can be carried over into the new model: dual-clutch automatic.
Other highlights in the new Focus are glitzy interior, garish looks (like in the 3) and 2.0-litre diesel-turbo engine (like in the Chevrolet Cruze).
