Alonso: “Today, my thoughts are with the victims of the earthquake in Japan”
Montmelò, 11 March – “Confronted with a tragedy like the one that has struck Japan today, Formula 1 and all its problems to do with tyres, wings and engines is way down the list of priorities and today, my thoughts go first and foremost to the victims and their families.” Fernando Alonso was shocked at the reports of the tragedy which hit northern Japan and therefore wanted to give his personal message of support to all those hit by the cataclysm through www.ferrari.com.
Later, once the debriefing was over, it was time to add an evaluation of how the day’s testing had gone. To get a realistic idea of how competitive we are, we will have to wait until Saturday 26 March and qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix, but what is now a certainty is that the Ferrari 150° Italia is a strong car. After the 614 kilometres that Felipe Massa racked up yesterday, today Fernando Alonso overtook his team-mate’s total, hitting the 656 mark, bringing the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro total for these first three days at the Catalunya circuit to 1714 kilometres.
“Once again, the car has proved to be very reliable, which is always good news,” commented Fernando at the end of the day. “The updates that the team prepared for this last test have improved the handling of the car and today we managed to do a good simulation of a Grand Prix weekend, with reasonable lap times. Where are we compared to the others? Today, we are all together here in Barcelona…But joking apart, we will only discover the truth in Melbourne. Tyres used, fuel loads, test programmes: there are too many parameters in play and they can make a big difference in terms of outright performance. Right from the start of these tests, we have always concentrated on our own work, trying to improve the car and be reliable: how clever we have been, we will see in two weeks time.”

Montmelò, 11 marzo – “Davanti a tragedie come quella che ha colpito oggi il Giappone, la Formula 1 e tutti i problemi che riguardano gomme, alettoni e motori passano molto più che in secondo piano: oggi il mio pensiero va innanzitutto alle vittime e alle loro famiglie.” Fernando Alonso è rimasto turbato dalle immagini della tragedia che si è abbattuta sul Nord del Giappone e ha voluto così affidare a www.ferrari.com il suo personale messaggio di solidarietà per tutti coloro che sono stati toccati dal cataclisma.
Poi, dopo la fine del briefing, è arrivata anche una valutazione sulla giornata di test. Per un verdetto realistico sulla competitività si dovrà aspettare sabato 26 marzo, quando si svolgeranno le qualifiche del Gran Premio d’Australia ma quello che è ormai assodato è che la Ferrari 150° Italia è una monoposto robusta. Dopo i 614 chilometri messi insieme ieri da Felipe Massa, oggi Fernando Alonso ha superato il compagno di squadra arrivando a quota 656, portando così il totale della Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro in questi primi tre giorni al Circuit de Catalunya a 1714 chilometri percorsi.
“Ancora una volta la macchina ha dimostrato di essere molto affidabile, il che è sempre una buona notizia” – ha commentato Fernando a fine giornata – “Gli aggiornamenti che la squadra ha preparato per quest’ultimo test hanno migliorato il comportamento della vettura e oggi siamo riusciti a fare una buona simulazione di un fine settimana di Gran Premio, girando su tempi discreti. Dove siamo rispetto agli altri? Oggi siamo tutti insieme qui a Barcellona… Battute a parte, la verità la sapremo soltanto a Melbourne. Tipo di gomme usato, quantitativo di benzina a bordo, programma svolto: sono troppi i parametri in gioco che possono fare una grande differenza in termini di prestazione assoluta. Sin dall’inizio di questi test noi siamo sempre rimasti concentrati sul nostro lavoro, cercando di migliorare la macchina e di essere affidabili: quanto saremo stati bravi lo vedremo fra due settimane.”
