Nick Heidfeld is not ruling out the possibility of Renault challenging for race wins this season.

The innovative new R31 has looked impressive during pre-season testing, and Renault boss Eric Boullier recently said how pleased he was with Heidfeld's performance since being named as the replacement for the injured Robert Kubica. Heidfeld said he was confident, despite having yet to win a grand prix in 173 starts.

"Naturally it [winning] would be beautiful," Heidfeld told Cologne's Express. "It will happen if the car is good enough. The test phase was good for us, but we don't know whether it has been enough to win races."

While he's encouraged by the performance of the car, Heidfeld became the latest driver to criticise the amount of work a driver needs to do on the steering wheel. With the return of KERS and the introduction of the moveable rear wing, drivers are having to do more in the cockpit, and Heidfeld told Focus that it was like "playing piano".

"Every year the steering wheel is getting worse and worse," he said. "We are at the limit now. [It is] becoming dangerous, therefore we have informed the FIA."

On Saturday Sebastian Vettel listed a drivers' strike as a possible repercussion if the Grand Prix Drivers Association were not listened to, but fellow German Nico Rosberg said the new regulations were a positive move.

"We have to keep in mind that, under certain circumstances, there is a safety risk in principle," Rosberg told Auto Bild. "But I think that the adjustable rear wing for overtaking is right."
