Sony Ericsson: Phone components shortage due to Japan
HELSINKI | Tue Apr 19, 2011 9:08am EDT
(Reuters) - Japan's earthquake and tsunami has created a shortage of key components like displays and batteries on the cellphone market, Sony Ericsson's Chief Executive Bert Nordberg told Reuters in an interview. "As it happened on March 11 it had a marginal effect on the first quarter," Nordberg said, adding the effect would be "definitely" bigger on the second quarter.
"There is shortage of displays, batteries, some printed circuit boards," Nordberg said. Earlier on Tuesday the venture of Sony and Ericsson reported a surprise profit for January-March thanks to booming smartphone demand and cost cuts.
