Huma's brave face

Wife of disgraced congressman emerges, looking fabulous

BY CARMEL MELOUNEY

The wife of disgraced congressman Anthony Weiner put on a brave face for the cameras today in her first public appearance since it was revealed she was pregnant with his child.

Huma Abedin struck a glamorous pose in a bright blue blazer and dramatic red lipstick as she stepped out with her boss, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, on a diplomatic trip to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

Abedin, 35, a longtime Clinton aide, emerged from seclusion the day after news broke that she is in the early stages of pregnancy — and the most revealing photo yet of her husband’s infamous crotch hit the Internet.

Breaking his silence for the first time since his tearful mea culpa on Monday, Weiner yesterday admitted in a statement that did send “explicit” photos of himself to women with whom he corresponded online.

The latest shocking Weiner pic was posted to Twitter by the hosts of Sirius XM radio’s “Opie & Anthony Show” after conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart showed them the photo on his smartphone.

Abedin is apparently nearing the end of her first trimester, having kept her pregnancy a secret from almost everyone around her until this week.

She been an employee of Clinton’s for the past 15 years, and was in the White House when the Clintons had to weather their own political sex scandal.

Abedin and Weiner were married last July in a lavish ceremony on Long Island that was officiated by former President Bill Clinton, who reportedly toasted the bride by saying she was like a daughter to him.

Weiner’s wife has not made any public comments since her husband admitted earlier this week that he had sent a lewd photograph to a 21-year-old Seattle student via Twitter and had engaged in explicit chats with six different women over the past three years.

But the Wall Street Journal reported that Abedin sought the counsel of her boss on Monday after her husband privately confessed to her that he had been lying for the past week about his Twitter account being “hacked.”

Weiner said Monday that he and Abedin are not splitting up.

It also emerged yesterday that even as the Twitter photo scandal was unfolding, the Rep. was making jokes about his predicament with porn star Ginger Lee.

Lee claims that Weiner coached her on how to deal with media scrutiny about their relationship, offering her advice on how to make a false public statement.

While coaching her, Weiner sent her a message joking, “Btw, I’m sponsoring a line of twitpic ready undies. I need a name,” Lee told TMZ.

She replied, “I want twitpic ready undies. Hook a bitch up, I never get cool s***. Just sayin’.”

Another of Weiner’s former sexting partners, 40-year-old Las Vegas blackjack dealer Lisa Weiss, has apologized to his wife.

Weiss sent an apology letter to Abedin, which reads: “I know you probably don’t want to hear from me, but I still want to express my deepest apologies for conversing with your husband Congressman Anthony Weiner. I honestly meant no harm and I hope that you and Anthony can work through this. I still remain a huge supporter!”

And in an interview with CBS’s Inside Edition yesterday, Weiss said she feels “humiliated” and wants to apologize to Abedin.

“I should not have been flirting with her husband,” Weiss said last night.

“I feel terrible. I’m very sorry. I was single. I had a crush on him. I want to apologize,” Weiss said.

“I want people to know I’m not this slutty girl,” she added. “I was just harmlessly texting someone I knew I’d never meet. It was fun for me because he was a very important person. I just admired him so much.”

Another of Weiner’s former flames, journalist Kirsten Powers, said yesterday she is angry he lied to her and the nation about his online sexual exploits.

“I had been defending him, based on what he told me, but no more. Weiner must resign from Congress immediately,” Powers wrote in an opinion piece published by the Daily Beast.

“As more information trickles out about his online behavior with women, it has also become clear that he does not have the character to be in a position of leadership because of his misogynist view of women and predatory behavior.”

Infographic: United States of the Environment

We can't all have the most organic farms or the lowest air pollution, but every U.S. state is No. 1 in some environmental or public health category ... and No. 50 in another. Here's a look at each state's strengths and weaknesses.

Check out the maps below, and for more info (or to be reminded which state is which) see the list of states, stats and sources.

BIG TROUBLE

Deadly elephant rampage in India

Two wild elephants trampled a man to death during a terrifying three-hour rampage through an Indian city yesterday.

The furious beasts entered Mysore in southern India from a nearby forest, and continued their charge even after one was hit by a tranquilizer dart. They crushed a 55-year-old security guard, killed two cows and even attacked some parked motorcycles before workers at a local zoo captured them.

The pachyderms were slated to be released back into the wild last night.

Nigeria: The Cost of Oil
