Ferrari double at Misano. Mixed fortunes at Silverstone

Maranello, 6 June –This past weekend saw Ferraris in action at the Misano Adriatico circuit for the second round of the Italian Gran Tourismo Championship and at Silverstone circuit for the European FIA GT3 series.

The Misano event got off to a good start with a double in the GT2 class for the F430 GTC driven by Ferdinando Geri and Claudio Rossetto (Vittoria Competizioni) who beat Victor and Giovanni Coggiola in both Race 1 and Race2, although the Porsche 997 crew lead the class on seventy points, from the Vittoria Competizioni duo who are on forty.

At Silverstone, the best of the Ferraris entered in the second race of the FIA GT3 series was the fourth place secured by the AF Corse 458 Italia GT3 driven by Daniel Brown-Glynn Geddie. However, it was a bittersweet weekend for Francesco Castellacci and Federico Leo who, after a splendid win in Race 1 on Saturday at the wheel of the AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia GT3, put in another convincing showing in Race 2, finishing fifth just 16 seconds behind the winner. It was an excellent resut given the 15 second handicap which as per the regulations was imposed on the Ferrari number 50 driven by the two Italians and which meant they led the championship classification thanks to excellent performances.

However, disappointment came just a few minutes after the flag had fallen, when the duo was given a 30 second penalty because Castellacci did not cut the engine as required by the rules, when pitting to change drivers. This dropped the crew out of the points and down to third in the overall classification, 7 points behind the leaders, Hoevert Vos-Jeroen den Boer, who won Race 2 in the Racing DB Motorsport BMW Z4.

The next round of the Italian GT Championship takes place at Magione on 19 June, while the European FIA GT3 series is back in action at Navarra over the weekend of 3 July.
