FIA announces record 21-race calendar for 2012
Formula One racing’s governing body, the FIA, has released a confirmed calendar for the 2012 world championship. The addition of the United States Grand Prix makes for a 21-race season - one more round than in 2011 and the longest in F1 history.
Bahrain will start proceedings on March 11, followed by the Australian, Malaysian, Chinese and Korean rounds. The championship then heads to Europe for May’s Turkish race, although the Istanbul Park event remains subject to confirmation.
The 2012 season will have five lots of back-to-back race weekends. The first race in the United States since 2007 will take place on June 17, a week after the Canadian event. The four other back-to-back pairings are Bahrain/Australia, Malaysia/China, Spain/Monaco and Belgium/Italy.
The 2012 season will draw to a close in Brazil on November 25.
