Rubens rushed to the airport this evening, but he wasn’t heading home to Monaco or Sao Paulo. He was off to Grove to meet Mike Coughlan, our new chief engineer. After 19 seasons in F1, the great Brazilian driver remains as committed as ever. And, good news Rubens: the weather’s beautiful in England at the moment!

Quote of the weekend has to go to Jenson Button, who, when asked before the race what he’d been getting up to since his victory in Canada replied: “Getting drunk and gambling!” He was on a stag-do in Las Vegas, ahead of his mate Richie Williams’ (no relation) wedding in Somerset.

They start ’em young in Brazil. Felipe Massa brought his 18-month-old son Felipe Jnr to this race, but the lad wasn’t remotely interested in watching his dad on-track; he spent most of the race playing football in the paddock. “I’m pleased to hear that,” says Felipe. “I’d prefer him to be a football player than a racing driver because there are a lot more football teams in the world than Formula One teams!”

What is it about Red Bull drivers and water? Sebastian Vettel jumped straight into the Energy Station’s swimming pool after winning in Monaco and Jaime Alguersuari couldn’t be kept from the Valencia harbour after finishing eighth today. Perhaps he was simply too hot?

Today’s race was a great one for statisticians. It was only the third time in Formula One history that every starter finished (after the 1961 Dutch and 2005 Italian GPs) and 24 finishers was a new record. Given all that, we were a bit surprised that there wasn’t more overtaking...
