Di Resta confident of points finish
Sunday 24th July 2011
Paul di Resta is confident of a points finish in the German Grand Prix despite being outqualified by Force India team-mate Adrian Sutil at the Nurburgring.
Sutil lines up a season-high eighth for his home race while Di Resta starts 12th - only the third time in 10 races the Scottish rookie has been bested by his team-mate on a Saturday this season.
That the gap between the two was over 0.7secs - the largest it has been this year - was arguably a surprise as Di Resta was hot on the heels of Sutil in practice on Friday.
Di Resta was also handicapped by the fact that he had to make way for reserve Nico Hulkenberg in the morning session 24 hours earlier.
Assessing the situation, Di Resta said: "It was quite a tough day for me. I couldn't really get the tyres to work when it mattered and I was struggling with a lack of grip.
"I seem to have lost some ground to Adrian compared to yesterday so perhaps one of the directions we took overnight hasn't quite worked out.
"We need to analyse that and try and improve for tomorrow."
Although Di Resta has not scored a point since the second race of the year in Malaysia, he believes he can end his drought.
"The unsettled forecast means it's unlikely to be a straightforward race," added Di Resta, who qualified a career-best sixth for the British Grand Prix two weeks ago.
"I still hope we can fight for points because our long run pace has looked quite strong.
"Also my set-up is more race-orientated, which will hopefully play into our hands."
