Memo to self: get Pastor’s steering wheel back to the pit garage. That memo was on the mind of our press officer Sophie Eden this evening after she’d given Pastor’s €40,000 wheel to Fox TV for a feature! If it helps, Sophie, Keke Rosberg’s steering wheel from 1985 is on an FW10 in the Nurburgring museum…

Big shout out to Valtteri Bottas, who scored a GP3 podium today. His progress from 11th on the grid to third (he went from 11th to fourth on the opening lap!) was watched by Frank Williams, Adam Parr and Toto Wolff in the AT&T Williams motorhome. Great effort, Valtteri!

Mercedes love a good party, particularly when they’re on home turf. They threw a brilliant bash for everyone in the F1 paddock on Thursday night (the last person went to bed at 4.30am) and they did the same tonight. More Warsteiner, more Riesling, more sleep depravation: who said life in F1 was easy?

This is the first time in 15 races (Monza 2010) that Sebastian Vettel hasn’t started on the front row of the grid. He’s always struggled relative to Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber at the Nurburgring and Paul di Resta has an explanation: “In the junior formulas they don’t use the bottom loop at this track,” says the Force India driver. “That’s quite a significant chunk of the lap, so the home drivers don’t have much of a home advantage.”
