Marc Gené at Ferrari Racing Days at Spielberg
Maranello, 31 August –This coming weekend, the circuit at Spielberg will host the Ferrari Racing Days event, that features the Italian and European series of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli and those Ferraris involved in the non-competitive programmes run by Maranello’s Corse Clienti department. Alongside the 458 and F430 Challenge cars taking part in two qualifying sessions and races, there will also be eleven historic Formula 1 cars, run by the F1 Clienti department, as well as five Ferrari FXX and twelve 599XX on track for some untimed sessions.
Marc Gené, the Spaniard who is on the books as a driver for Scuderia Ferrari, working on development of the car, as well as being involved in promotional activities, will be a special guest at the event, in the role of coach to those taking part in the F1 Clienti programme. On Sunday he will also take to the track at the wheel of an F60 for a demonstration run in the carf that the Maranello Scuderia used to compete in the 2009 Formula 1 World Championship.
The programme gets underway on Friday 2 September, with free practice prior to two qualifying sessions and the first race on Saturday. The second one is scheduled for Sunday, with competitors racing together but in two separate classifications for the Trofeo Pirelli and the Coppa Shell.
Going into this round, the leader of the European series of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli is Max Blancardi (Motor/Malucelli) on 111 points, while racing for the Motor/Piacenza team, Jean Marc Bachelier and Yannick Mallegol head the gentleman drivers competing in the Coppa Shell on 116 points. In the Italian one-make series, Stefano Gai (Rossocorsa) is at the top of the Trofeo Pirelli table on 72 points, while Benedetto Marti is on 75, which gives the Motor/Piacenza driver the lead in the Coppa Shell.
