Ricciardo keeping F1 goals realistic
Wednesday 10th August 2011
Daniel Ricciardo says he wants to keep his goals in Formula One "realistic" following speculation that has linked the youngster with Red Bull Racing.
The 22-year-old Australian has been suggested as a long-term replacement for Mark Webber but with his compatriot set to stay on with the world champions, Ricciardo will likely have to wait for such an opportunity.
Another option would be sister team Toro Rosso, for whom Ricciardo served as reserve driver prior to his graduation to a race seat with Hispania at the British Grand Prix.
For now, though, Ricciardo is concentrating on the job in hand and told Auto Motor und Sport that he first wants to match Vitantonio Liuzzi, his team-mate at HRT.
"Before I even get a seat there, I have to prove that I deserve it," said Ricciardo, a product of Red Bull's young driver programme.
"Therefore, first of all I need to get to the level of Tonio Liuzzi. That is a realistic goal.
"It would be great to sit in a Red Bull, but I think that's unlikely. It would be nice to have a place in a Formula One team, where, I don't really care," he added.
To date Ricciardo has outqualified Liuzzi once, in Germany, and beat him in a race for the first time in Hungary.
