Red Bull driver grabs top spot after another rain-hit practice session

Webber: Quickest time in second practice

Mark Webber topped the timesheets in second practice as rain continued to affect the opening day of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend.

The Red Bull driver set a fastest time of 1 minute 50.321 before the heavens opened and ensured he would remain in top spot until the end of the session.

His fastest lap was just a tenth of a second ahead of Fernando Alonso's mark, with the two McLarens of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton following in third and fourth respectively.

Alonso's Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa was fifth ahead of Nico Rosberg and Sergio Perez.

Force India reserve driver Nico Hulkenberg made the most of some rare track time to set the eighth fastest time, with Paul di Resta and world champion Sebatian Vettel completed the top 10.

Wet

The track was still wet when the session started but as a dry line emerged the times tumbled with P1 slot swapping hands several times.

Vettel led the way early on but was usurped first by Alonso and then numerous others as the track dried out and the times went under the two-minute barrier.

Mercedes, who had set the pace in first practice through Michael Schumacher, once again looked strong as Rosberg set the fastest time before Vettel regained top spot.

But the benchmark continued to be lowered as first Alonso and then Webber took over, with the activity at the top of the timesheets finally halted when rain forced the drivers into the pits.

Virgin's Timo Glock was the first driver to venture out in the wet conditions but ended up spinning, while Rosberg and Bruno Senna, who had crashed in first practice, also had moments in the rain.
