Ross Brawn expects Sebastian Vettel to become world champion at Suzuka © Sutton Images
Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn says it would be "somehow fitting" if Sebastian Vettel wins the World Championship at the Japanese Grand Prix.
Having had the chance to seal the title in Singapore, Vettel needs only one point at Suzuka to wrap up back-to-back championships, and with a worst result of fourth place so far this season it is almost a certainty that he will get the result he needs. Brawn says that after the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan's east coast earlier this year it is good that the country should see the next world champion crowned.
"Suzuka is a classic racing circuit which has hosted some memorable races over the years, and we are looking forward to returning to Japan next week," Brawn said. "The recent improvements to the circuit and paddock have made Suzuka an excellent venue, and the support that Formula One receives from the enthusiastic Japanese fans is always very impressive.
"After the tragedy which took place in the country earlier this year, we hope that the race will provide entertainment and enjoyment, and it seems somehow fitting that the championship is likely to be decided in Japan."
