FDA - Vallelunga test for the best of Italian F3
Campagnano (Rome,) 15 November – Vallelunga’s Piero Taruffi circuit today hosted a test for winners of the Italian Formula 3 Championship organized by the FDA in collaboration with the ACI-CSAI and the Vallelunga Federation school. The day’s programme featured the overall winner of the series, Sergio Campana and the best rookie, Michael Lewis taking turns at the wheel of an F60, as used by Ferrari in the 2009 Formula 1 World Championship. Under the watchful eye of the head of the Ferrari Driver Academy, Luca Baldisserri, Lewis was the first on track. On the way to taking the title of best rookie, the Canadian scored three wins and a further three podiums. He ran 43 laps today with a best of 1.20.600.
In the afternoon, it was the turn of Sergio Campana from Modena, who with two wins and six further podiums, dominated the 2011 Italian F3 season on his way to taking the outright title. Today, Lewis completed 45 laps of the 4.085km track, with a best time of 1.21.040.
At the end of the session, Baldisserri confirmed the initiative would continue next year with a prize drive for the best drivers. “Our commitment to the youngsters in the Italian F3 will definitely run in 2012. Since 2008, we have offered this opportunity to the most deserving drivers from the series, running them in our F1 car, which, if only for a day, gives them a chance to realise their dream of getting close to the world of Ferrari.”
The general public was able to watch the test as the Vallelunga circuit allowed free admission to the grandstands for the day.

Campagnano (Roma), 15 novembre -L’Autodromo Piero Taruffi di Vallelunga è stato oggi teatro del test riservato ai vincitori del Campionato Italiano Formula 3, organizzato dalla FDA in collaborazione con l’ACI-CSAI e la Scuola Federale di Vallelunga. Il programma della giornata ha visto impegnati Sergio Campana, campione assoluto della serie e Michael Lewis, primo tra gli esordienti che, sotto la supervisione del responsabile del programma Ferrari Driver Academy Luca Baldisserri, si sono alternati alla guida di una F60, la monoposto di Formula 1 con cui la Ferrari ha preso parte al Campionato del Mondo nella stagione 2009.
Il primo a scendere in pista è stato Lewis, pilota californiano che ha ben figurato nella serie con tre vittorie e altrettanti piazzamenti a podio, cogliendo alla sua prima partecipazione il titolo esordienti. Nel pomeriggio è stata la volta del modenese Sergio Campana che, con due vittorie e sei podi all’attivo, ha dominato la stagione 2011 del campionato italiano F3 guadagnandosi la testa della classifica assoluta. Nel test di oggi Lewis ha affrontato 45 tornate sui 4.085 metri del tracciato romano con il miglior tempo di 1.21.040, mentre Campana ha completato 43 giri siglando il miglior riscontro cronometrico in 1.20.600.
Al termine della sessione, il responsabile del Programma FDA ha confermato che l’iniziativa proseguirà anche l’anno prossimo, con un test premio riservato ai migliori piloti del campionato italiano: “Il nostro impegno verso i giovani piloti della F3 Italia proseguirà sicuramente anche nel 2012. Dal 2008 offriamo questa opportunità ai piloti più meritevoli della serie mettendoli alla prova sulle nostre monoposto e permettendo loro di realizzare, anche solo per un giorno, il sogno di conoscere da vicino il mondo Ferrari”.
Il test in pista è stato seguito dal pubblico di appassionati per i quali le tribune dell'autodromo romano sono rimaste aperte per l'intera giornata.
