Patrick Head will leave the Williams Formula One team to take up responsibilities with Williams Hybrid Power.
Head, who has been with Williams Grand Prix Engineering since it was founded in 1977, announced at the Brazilian Grand Prix that it would be his last race with the team as the recent restructuring had left no real need for him to continue in his current role of director of engineering. At 65-years-old rumours had surfaced this season that he would retire at the end of the year, but Head insisted it was merely a change of focus and that he'd still have a large interest in the Formula One side of the company.
"Even going back a long time - when we were winning championships - I didn't go to all the races," Head told GP Week. "There was usually somebody else, like Frank Dernie, Adrian Newey, who did half the races and I did the other half. In recent years I've been doing less than half the races, anyway.
"My focus is going towards Williams Hybrid Power, which is another growing company with about 30 people in it at the moment, doing some very interesting projects away from the Formula One side, but I'm still a shareholder in the F1 team, so I will be keeping an eye on how they're getting on."
