Young Italian F3 drivers sample Ferrari at Vallelunga

Jules Bianchi may be hard at work in Abu Dhabi for Ferrari but he hasn’t been the only young driver in action for the team this week. Over in Italy, Sergio Campana and Michael Lewis both had the chance to drive a 2009-spec F60 at the Vallelunga circuit on Tuesday as a reward for their success in this season’s Italian Formula Three championship.

Italian Campana won the series, whilst Canadian Lewis secured the best rookie title after clinching three wins and a further three podiums. Campana ended Tuesday fastest, clocking a best time of 1m 20.600s after covering 43 laps. Lewis's quickest was a 1m 21.040s after his 45 laps.

Ferrari, meanwhile, confirmed they will continue the initiative next year. “Our commitment to the youngsters in the Italian F3 will definitely run in 2012,” said head of the Ferrari Driver Academy, Luca Baldisserri. “Since 2008, we have offered this opportunity to the most deserving drivers from the series, running them in our F1 car, which, if only for a day, gives them a chance to realise their dream of getting close to the world of Ferrari.”
