Just two days after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, we were back in action today at the Yas Marina Circuit for the 2011 Young Driver Test.

Red Bull Junior Team driver Jean-Eric Vergne was at the wheel of an RB7 for day one of the three-day test. And his first outing was a good one, after 83 laps of the circuit the 21-year-old Frenchman recorded the best time of the day: 1:40.011.

As soon as Jean-Eric was up to speed with the RB7, the team concentrated on aerodynamic testing for 2012, before starting a Pirelli tyre test in the afternoon to evaluate 2012 prototypes.

Jean-Eric said: “That was a fantastic day for me. Driving the World Championship-winning car is just great and I liked every lap I did out there. Knowing there are two more days still to do, just makes me smile more. It’s a great opportunity from Red Bull Racing; I’m trying to learn as much as possible and get as much as possible out of it.”

The final results of the day looked like this:

1. Jean-Eric Vergne (Red Bull Racing) 1:40.011s
