Sergio “Checo” Pérez finishes the Brazilian Grand Prix in 13th position

With the Brazilian Grand Prix the F1 World Championship comes to the end of its season 2011, race in which the Mexican Escudería Telmex driver to Sauber F1 Team finishes in the 13th position, concluding the general standings with 14 points in his tally, 16th place of this, his first year in the maximum motorsport category.
The Brazilian Grand Prix, last round of the 19 programmed rounds of the F1 World Championship 2011, started with a rain threat that never arrived in the 71 agreed around the 4.309 kilometers layout, in which Checo Pérez started from the 17th position.
At the start the Mexican driver would overtake a position to Jaime Alguersauri, in the second lap he would overtake Kovalainen and was already in the 15th position, he was advancing slowly but with excellent expectations. In lap 20 he was in P8, his best position in this Grand Prix.
In lap 21 Checo would his first pit stop and go back with soft compounds in P14. He would overtake two places by lap 36, when he spun and lost them both; however, he said by the radio he was all right and could continue. But his left front tire was damaged.
In lap 46 Checo would do his second and last pit stop, coming back to track with his medium compounds in P15. Towards the end of the race the Sauber F1 Team driver overtook two positions, with an excellent maneuver over Barrichello in the Ferradura turn, closing the competition in P13.
In the Constructors Championship the Sauber F1 Team finished in seventh place, ahead of Toro Rosso.
“The team’s main target for today was to make sure we finished the season in seventh, and I am very happy that this was achieved, although I couldn’t contribute this time.
As a team I think we are all already looking forward to the next season. After all that has happened I am happy with my rookie season. I have learned a lot and with this experience I want to do a good job in 2012. However, my race today wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be.
The start was fine, but we had opted for wet conditions and the result was that the rear tires tended to overheat. The car was quite difficult to drive and I’m sorry for the spin at half distance”. Said “Checo” Pérez.

Con el Gran Premio de Brasil ha llegado a su término la temporada 2011 del Campeonato del Mundo de F1, carrera en la que el piloto mexicano del Sauber F1 Team cerró en la posición 13, concluyendo en la tabla general con 14 puntos y el decimosexto lugar en su primer año en la máxima categoría del automovilismo mundial.
El Gran Premio de Brasil, última fecha de las 19 programadas del Campeonato del Mundo de F1 2011, dio inicio con la inminencia de la lluvia, la que nunca llegó en los 71 giros pactados a la pista de 4.309 kilómetros de longitud, y en la que “Checo” Pérez largó desde el cajón 17 de la parrilla de salida.
Y justo en la largada el mexicano ganaba una posición por delante del español Jaime Alguersuari; en el giro dos, pasaba a Kovalainen y se ubicaba en la posición 15 y avanzaba lentamente, con buenas expectativas. De hecho, para la vuelta 20 se colocaba octavo, su mejor lugar en este gran premio.
En el giro 21 “Checo” se iba a los pits, su primera parada y regresaba al trazado montando neumáticos suaves y en la P14. Avanzaría dos puestos antes de que en el giro 36 hiciera un “trompo” que le restó dos lugares. Sin embargo, comunicaba por radio que estaba bien, “sin problemas y puedo continuar”. Pero el hecho es que su neumático delantero izquierdo quedó lastimado.
Para la vuelta 46 “Checo” hacía su segundo y último pit-stop, saliendo a la pista con llantas intermedias y en el lugar 15. Antes del final, el piloto del Sauber F1 Team ganaría dos posiciones, con un rebase sensacional sobre Barrichello en la curva Ferradura, para cerrar finalmente la competencia en el sitio 13.
En el Campeonato de Constructores, el Sauber F1 Team se quedó en el séptimo puesto, por delante del Toro Rosso.
“El principal objetivo del equipo para hoy era asegurarnos de concluir la temporada en séptima posición y estoy muy feliz de que esto se logró, aunque no pude contribuir esta vez. Como equipo creo que todos estamos ya deseando la próxima temporada.
Después de todo lo que ha pasado, estoy contento con mi temporada de novato. He aprendido mucho y con esta experiencia, quiero hacer un buen trabajo para el año 2012. Sin embargo, hoy mi carrera no fue tan buena como esperaba que fuera.
La salida fue buena, pero habíamos optado por condiciones de humedad y el resultado fue que las ruedas traseras tendieron a sobrecalentarse. El coche fue bastante difícil de conducir”, dijo Sergio “Checo” Pérez.
