ASK THE GP NATION: ABU DHABI

07 NOVEMBER 2011

“It’s the only twilight race. Who can fail to be impressed by it?!” says @Andrea_Eyre

The season is coming to an end but it seems everyone is just as excited as at the beginning. Formula One is heading to Abu Dhabi for the penultimate round of 2011 - not long now before we experience what @sarahc82 calls “an epic race”.

“It’s the only race that starts in the light and finishes in (near) darkness”, says @f1lover75. Something that @ZEROMotorsport is really looking forward to, as the “light changes are a dream for photographers”. @heyk also agrees, and loves “the sunset part” and for @AndyDYoung it’s “the only intriguing feature at this Grand Prix. “The twilight effect is what also makes it special” for @LawlessonF1, but he also adds that “the pit exit is awesome!” Yes, the tunnel is a special feature.

So, as @mike09lfc says, the race “starts during the day and ends near night time”, but there is much more to this Grand Prix. The Yas Marina circuit is one of the few anti-clockwise circuits and what makes it special for @markfendley are “the lights on the roof of the Yas hotel”. And @BaronVonClutch adds, “the crystal roof is pretty special, an amazing piece of architecture!” It sure is!

The most curious thing for @graham99shaw is that the drivers “spray rose water instead of Champagne” on the Podium, as in the UAE alcoholic drinks are restricted. @fletchercohol enjoys driving this track on the @Codemasters F1 2011 game and says that “the long straights and the nice twisty final sector” make it his favourite track. What makes @brett_A_taylor happy is that the track “is only an hour away” from him, while @lambhelen just says that “the name of the track is quite nice to pronounce.” Interesting. @marshal_beej remembers this race because he “marshalled the first ever GP at the Yas Marina Circuit, including the GP2 test the weekend before” and he is really looking forward to it again this year. @AilishCatherine lets us know that she will be there in a year’s time and “just can’t wait for the sun and heat!”

@bondiamia says “it’s a beautiful race to watch on TV – together with Monaco and Singapore, they are the showcase events for HD TV sports coverage” while @ross_am_i can’t wait to see the “grid girls” as the “#championshipisdoneanddusted.”

So as @Andrea_Eyre says, “Abu Dhabi is unique in many ways" and some of you like @Wil4gbr or @DarshanChokhani will be able to experience it when they arrive there. And while you are there, @Luize2004 says you can’t miss Dubai as it has “incredible city buildings.” Back in Abu Dhabi, @Supramanian suggests going past “the ‘Automatic Café’, the best mixed grill in the world!” Even though @BiscuitBates warns us: “don’t let the team near the Friday Brunches if you want them to perform on Saturday and Sunday!”
