Qualifying might not have gone according to plan for AT&T Williams, but Gabriela Tarkanyai, Pastor Maldonado’s girlfriend, wasn’t going to let the team’s on-track performance dampen her party spirits. Today was her birthday – many happy returns from us all! – and she was determined to celebrate in style. A little singing and dancing to Eddie Jordan’s band in the Yas Hotel perhaps?

Gaby isn’t the only ‘better half’ at Yas Marina this weekend. Rubens Barrichello and Patrick Head have their ladies with them, but our biggest cheer goes out to Toto Wolff and his new wife Susie. This is their first visit to a Grand Prix since tying the knot three weeks ago, so many congratulations! Could we call this a honeymoon of sorts?

Helen Marshall, our Paddock Club hostess with the mostest, could be forgiven for looking a little weary this morning. After a flat-out day with the AT&T Williams guests yesterday, she did some babysitting for Dom Reilly, our head of marketing, who had his family with him this weekend and needed to press some flesh at a sponsor function. What a selfless act from our Hels!

Global megastars were out in force in the pitlane today. Former Beatle Paul McCartney dropped in at McLaren (Macca at Macca!), Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini was a guest of Ferrari and Britney Spears prowled up and down the paddock like a lioness. As Bernie Ecclestone has said many times, “a Grand Prix isn’t just a race, it’s a happening”. It’s certainly happening in Abu Dhabi this weekend!
