Williams F1 and Mowasalat have today signed a memorandum of understanding that will see Williams F1’s advanced simulator technology, currently under development at the Williams Technology Centre, Qatar (WTCQ), applied in Mowasalat’s driver training operations to help improve road safety, passenger comfort and fuel efficiency.
Popularly known as the “The Transport Company,” Qatar-based Mowasalat started its activities in the region in October 2004 by providing land transport services and solutions. Mowasalat’s mission is to be the regional leader in the provision of integrated ground transport services across Qatar.
Under the terms of the MoU, the WTCQ will work with Mowasalat’s world-class Karwa Transportation Training and Development Centre (KTTDC) to adapt, further develop, empirically validate and ultimately integrate Williams F1’s advanced simulator training systems into its operations.
Williams F1’s simulator technology, pioneered over the last decade for the advanced training of the world’s leading racing drivers, allows high-fidelity advanced training to be conducted in a controlled environment across varied contexts with the benefit of repeatability to enable assessment and skills improvement. The enhanced training and assessment capabilities provided by Williams F1’s state-of-the-art driving simulators will help Mowasalat improve the skill level of its drivers to deliver better service to customers, improve the company’s environmental efficiency, reduce costs, improve road safety and further Mowasalat’s contribution to the development of a world-class transportation sector in the State of Qatar.
The MoU agreement was signed today at the Williams Technology Centre, Qatar in the Qatar Science & Technology Park by Mr. Alex Burns, CEO of Williams F1 and Mr. Nasser Al Khanji, Mowasalat Strategy and Business Improvement Director.
Mr. Al Khanji commented on the importance this initiative, “Working with Williams F1 to develop and apply their unique simulator technology in our training activities represents an important progression of Mowasalat’s strategy of harnessing world-class technology and adopting the latest training methods to maintain our position at the forefront in the field of training and transportation. This initiative also demonstrates Mowasalat’s ongoing commitment to supporting the National Vision through partnerships with academic, research and commercial entities.”
Mr. Burns commented, “For the last thirty five years Williams F1 has developed techniques and technology to train some of the world’s best drivers in international motorsport. We are delighted to be partnering with Mowasalat to apply our existing training technology and know-how as well as to develop new technologies to help improve the skills and capabilities of its drivers. In addition to delivering safety, cost, environmental and customer service benefits to Mowasalat, today’s announcement also affirms Williams F1 and Mowasalat’s shared commitment to developing Qatar’s knowledge based economy through collaborative partnerships.”
Mr. Robert Makondo, KTTDC Director added, “Our vision is to improve and boost transport industry standards in the State of Qatar and the region through education, training and utilising the latest world-class technology and training methods. The partnership with Williams F1 is an important part of realising this vision. The provision of unique immersive driving simulators designed specifically for the requirements of the State of Qatar and GCC region based on an extensive study of Mowasalat’s requirements will represent a world-first in driver training technology.”
