RIM: BlackBerry sales to hit 100 million units in 2 years

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion expects sales of the smartphones to grow by two-thirds in two years, if it continues to perform "moderately," its co-chief executive said on Wednesday.

"We're close to 60 million BlackBerry subscribers now and if we continue to perform moderately, we'll be 100 million (subscribers) in couple of years...two years," RIM Co-Chief Executive Jim Balsillie told Reuters in an interview on the sidelines of the G20 CEO Summit in Seoul.

Balsillie said the company will launch PlayBook tablet computer in the first quarter of next year in North America before introducing it globally in the second quarter.

The tablet will start contributing to its sales "right at the gate," he said.

Balsillie also said enterprise demand for BlackBerry remained strong and its Asian business was not affected by the security issues, dismissing investor concerns that the Canadian company keeps losing market share to rivals such as Apple and Google.
