Heikki: Lotus must follow Red Bull's example
Heikki Kovalainen believes Team Lotus could achieve a similar feat to Red Bull in the near future by competing at the front within a handful of years.
The current championship team has been around in its current guise for just five years and, after just four years, they managed to secure second in 2009, going two better in 2010 and taking both titles.
Kovalainen is confident the newly formed Lotus outfit can do the same thing, emphasising that he didn't want to be with an 'average' team at the back of the grid.
"I think that this has to be our target [to follow in Red Bull's footsteps] and I think we need to set ourselves high goals," he told paultan.org.
"I don’t want to be just with an average team at the back of the grid. We want to get better and I know that the people in this team know what it takes and what we need to put in place to be able to do that.
"And that’s why it’s very important to keep working flat out. I’m going to keep pushing even if the car is not quick enough. Because when we arrive at the point that the cars are quick, then we all need to be ready," he added.
"Like I said if we believe it, we can do it and if we believe enough then we can definitely achieve it."
