Mallya welcomes Karthikeyan's return

Vijay Mallya may not have been ready to hand Narain Karthikeyan a F1 race-seat, however, he's pleased to see his fellow Indian back in the sport.

Hispania Racing announced earlier this week that Karthikeyan, who previously raced for Jordan in 2005, would join the team for the 2011 World Championship.

The Spanish team's decision has been welcomed by Force India's team boss.

"I'm delighted that Narain is able to make his F1 comeback with HRT and I wish him every success in the coming year," Mallya wrote on Force India's Facebook page.

"India should be proud that it will be fully represented in its inaugural Grand Prix by an Indian team and now an Indian driver."

The team boss also revealed that he had spoken with Karthikeyan in the past but opted not to sign the 33-year-old.

"We have spoken to Narain over a period of time about returning and it just wasn't the right time for us in this stage of our development," Mallya said.

As for his own team, Force India have yet to confirm their 2011 line-up although Adrian Sutil is expected to remain while Paul di Resta is believed to be set to replace Tonio Liuzzi.

"We're currently closing our driver line-up and I'm really excited about what's to come."
