Pedal with a purpose
How about biking to save elephants? The Elephant Nature Park, a sanctuary in northern Thailand, is organising a two-day "Tour de Chang" cycling trip to raise funds to go towards rescuing and taking care of these large wild creatures that were previously abused or neglected.
On the weekend of January 15 and 16, 2011, the "Bike for Elephants" tour will offer both fun and adventure as participants pass through the beautiful Mae Tang valley in Chiang Mai province. The route is deemed suitable for the average biker, and includes overnight camping in the Elephant Nature Park, as well as the chance to wash the elephants and wake up to the sounds of the surrounding wildlife.
Those interested can register online at Bring-the-elephant-home.org, and the fee is 2,500 baht per person (excluding mountain bike), or 3,300 baht per person (including mountain bike, helmet and water bottle). All teams must have at least four and no more than 10 members, and as a team, you will receive your own page on the Elephant Nature Park's website to help with the fund-raising; a minimum amount of 5,000 baht per person is required.
