SWEDISH GRAND TRAVEL AWARD 2011
THAILAND RECEIVES THE PRESTIGIOUS SWEDISH GRAND TRAVEL AWARD FOR THE BEST TOURIST COUNTRY 2011
The Swedish travel industry has rated Thailand as the “Best Tourist Country 2011”. The prize was presented at the Grand Travel Award 2011, which was held at the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm. The Grand Travel Award was organized by Travel News, an independent travel trade magazine.
A panel of Travel News editors and six decision-makers in the travel industry nominated candidates in all categories. Almost 600 travel agents voted on a ten-point scale. Those with the highest scores in each category won the prize.
Thailand won in the category "Best Tourist Country 2011" with an impressive score of 8.38.
In total, eight countries were nominated in the category. The award was received by Mr Unnop Buranasate, Chargé d’Affairs a.i. from the Royal Thai Embassy, together with Mrs Chiravadee Khunsub, Assistant Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Stockholm Office.
“We are very honoured to receive this prestigious prize”, said Mrs Nalinee Pananon, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Stockholm Office, over the telephone. This proves that Swedes love Thailand, and we look forward to continuing our good cooperation with the Swedish travel industry.
Mrs Pananon was on a business trip in the Baltic States and was unable to attend the award presentation ceremony at the Grand Hôtel yesterday.
