Stamina challenge on the River Kwai

The popular River Kwai Trophy adventure race is back to attract hundreds of energetic teams from around the world. The challenging Amarin Outdoor Unlimited River Kwai Trophy International 2011 will take place at the famous River Kwai Bridge in Kanchanaburi province on March 5, starting at 8:30am.

This is the 6th edition of the world-renowned Amazing Thailand International Adventure Race Championships Series 2011, which is by far the largest and most exciting adventure race in Southeast Asia.

As usual, the race has two divisions: Adventure, with a shorter course for newcomers and weekend warriors, and Extreme, with a longer course for confirmed athletes and experienced racers.

The race opens to teams of two racers who will be running, kayaking, biking, swimming and encountering mystery tests along the scenic trails during which they will also explore the mountains and farmland of western Thailand.

There are seven categories: men, women, mixed, master men (over 80 years combined), senior men (over 100 years combined), student boys, and student girls.

This year's event is particularly exciting with best Asian teams coming from Hong Kong and Singapore to challenge local champions Saman Gunnan and Seree Ruangsiri (winners of the Yara Bangkok Challenge and Ibis Koh Samui Trophy 2010).

Besides the spectacular adventure race, the 2-day River Kwai Trophy 2011 features many other fun activities, such as an expo village near the bridge where local communities, athletes and tourists will be able to meet in a friendly atmosphere; parties and hospitality; special shows, dances and songs from local artists, universities and schools; a gala dinner and the trophies presentation; as well as a children's corner and play area for various games.
