(Reuters) - Japan's Sharp Corp (6753.T) expects to beat its LCD sales target of 15 million units in the year to March, and wants to hike the target at least a further 10 percent the following year, a spokeswoman quoted the company's president as saying.

Mikio Katayama made the comments in an interview with Japan's Yomiuri newspaper on Monday, the Sharp spokeswoman said.

Sharp has been seen as facing a bleak year in televisions, with domestic demand set to nosedive following the end of a government subsidy in March and the completion of Japan's switch to digital terrestrial broadcasting in July.

But Katayama said he aimed to make up for this by selling more televisions overseas, the spokeswoman said.
