LMS - Ferrari on pole at Le Castellet with the 458 Italia GT2

Maranello, 2 April – Practice and qualifying for the opening round of the thirteenth Le Mans Series, the championship which was born out of the famous Le Mans 24 Hours took place today at the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit at Le Castellet.

The day went very well for AF Corse, who took pole position for tomorrow’s race in the LM GT Pro class, with the 458 Italia GT2 entrusted to skills of Giancarlo Fisichella and Gimmi Bruni. The duo made the most of all the potential of the new sports car, which tomorrow starts ahead of the Enge-Muller Aston Martin and Bell-Walker im the JMW Motorsport 458 Italia GT2.

Fisichella was clearly delighted: “we are very happy, especially in the way the car went, proving that it lived up to our expectations. After yesterday’s free practice we made some set-up changes which improved the performance and made the car more precise. Tomorrow, we can expect a very exciting six hours of racing because of the large number of cars taking part and because of the high standards of the teams we are up against.” The six hour marathon gets underway at 12.00 tomorrow.

The other Ferrari run by the Italian AF Corse team qualified fourth in the hands of Jaime Melo and Toni Vilander, followed by the Hankook Team Farnbacher F430 GTC, driven by Farnbacher and Simonsen. In the LMGTE AM grid, third place went to the AF Corse F430 GTC crewed by the trio of Perazzini, Cioci and Lemeret, followed by the Ferrari of Kessel Racing (Broniszewski, Peter) and the CRS Racing F430 GTC crewed by Christodoulou, Hummel and Quaife.

Maranello, 2 aprile – Si è da poco conclusa sul circuito Paul Ricard HTTT di Le Castellet un’intensa giornata di prove libere ed ufficiali in vista delle gara che inaugurerà domani la Le Mans Series, celebre campionato nato a supporto della 24 Ore di Le Mans, giunto quest’anno alla sua tredicesima edizione.

Molto positivo il bilancio di questa giornata che ha regalato al team AF Corse la pole position in classe LM GT Pro, con la 458 Italia GT2 affidata alla sapiente conduzione di Giancarlo Fisichella e Gimmi Bruni. La coppia di piloti ha saputo abilmente sfruttare il potenziale della nuova berlinetta che domani scatterà davanti all’Aston Martin di Enge- Muller ed alla 458 Italia GT2 di JMW Motorsport condotta da Bell-Walker.

La soddisfazione emerge dalle parole di Giancarlo Fisichella che, al termine della prova, ha dichiarato: “Siamo molto contenti, soprattutto per come si è comportata la vettura che si è dimostrata all’altezza delle nostre aspettative. Dopo le libere di ieri abbiamo effettuato alcune regolazioni di set up che ci hanno permesso di migliorare le prestazioni della vettura e di renderla più precisa. Domani ci aspetta una gara di sei ore che si prospetta molto entusiasmante sia per il numero di vetture presenti sia per il livello dei team con cui dovremo misurarci”. Ad attendere il ferrarista la lunga maratona di sei ore che prenderà il via domani alle 12 e si concluderà alle 18.

Quarta l’altra Ferrari del team piacentino AF Corse affidata alla conduzione di Jaime Melo e Toni Vilander, seguita dalla F430 GTC preparata da Hankook Team Fambacher e condotta da Farnbacher e Simonsen. Nello schieramento riservato alle vetture di classe LMGTE AM, la terza posizione in griglia è stata conquistata dalla F430 GTC affidata da AF Corse al trio di piloti Perazzini, Cioci e Lemeret, seguita dalla Ferrari di Kessel Racing (Broniszewski, Peter) e dalla F430 GTC di CRS Racing (Christodoulou, Hummel, Quaife).
