The history of Ferrari on the hills of Piacenza

Maranello, 24 June – This weekend sees a special gathering in the Val d’Arda in the Italian province of Piacenza, for over thirty historic Ferraris. The Vernasca Silver Flag is a competition for restored competition cars, featuring a high speed non-competitive parade on closed roads along an 8.5 kilometre hill climb, which links the villages of Castell’Arquato and Vernasca. This special event dates back to 1972 and was created by the Piacenza Historic Car Club and thus this year is the thirty ninth running of the event. It got underway this afternoon with all the usual procedures and the handing out of the special number plates. Tomorrow it’s time for scrutineering and the briefing, with the first run taking place at 11. There are two more runs scheduled for Sunday morning. This year the entire event is devoted to Ferrari, with non registered cars such as prototypes, the majority of its sports cars and any single-seaters, which includes F1 cars, all allowed to take part, assisted by the Ferrari Classiche Department, established specifically to provide restoration and maintenance services, technical assistance and Certificates of Authenticity to owners of classic Ferraris.
