Bontempelli and Malucelli triumph at Misano. Daniele Di Amato wins on Coppa Shell debut and Benedetto Marti extends his lead
Misano Adriatico (Rimini), 10 July –The third round of the Italian series of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli ended today at the Misano Adriatico circuit. Over the weekend a strong field of 22 cars took to the track in search of precious championship points. Race 1 was won by Lorenzo Bontempelli, who secured the first win of the year, while the second race saw Matteo Malucelli stand on the topmost step of the podium.
In Race 1 of the Trofeo Pirelli category, Lorenzo Bontempelli emerged victorious at the end of an event packed with passing moves and rendered even more challenging by the high temperatures: the Kessel team driver crossed the line ahead of Stefano Gai (Rossocorsa) and Dario Caso (CDP), with both men driving great races featuring amazing climbs up the order. Unfortunately Matteo Malucelli’s race ended prior to the chequered flag, despite leading and racing on lead lap. The Motor/Malucelli entered 458 Challenge, starting from the pole, had to retire because of a technical problem but he set the fastest lap (1.41.536). When it came to the gentleman drivers in the Coppa Shell, the very young novice in the series Daniele Di Amato, confirming the qualifying performance, took the win ahead of Benedetto Marti and Emilio Rossi (Motor/Piacenza), while Roberto Ragazzi (Ineco/Ram) was first past the flag among drivers racing the F430 ahead of Sossio Del Prete (CDP) and Venezuelan Fernando Baiz (Rossocorsa) back in action in the Ferrari Challenge for the first time since 2002.
In the second Trofeo Pirelli race, Matteo Malucelli took his revenge at the end of a closely fought duel with Lorenzo Bontempelli who came home second, while Giorgio Sernagiotto (Motor/Piacenza) ended third. In the Coppa Shell, the victory went to Benedetto Marti (Motor/Piacenza), followed by Renato Di Amato (CDP) and Emilio Rossi (Motor/Piacenza), while of those running the F430, Andrea Belluzzi (Motor/Modena) romped home to win ahead of Riccardo Ragazzi (Ineco/Ram) and Giosuè Rizzuto (Motor/Modena).
The Italian series of the one-make championship will be back in action over the weekend of 4 September at the Spielberg (Zeltweg) circuit, alongside the sixth round of the European series of the championship. The event will provide fans with the opportunity to see the beautiful cars used for the XX and F1 Clienti programmes, which will be running in some untimed sessions at the famous Austrian track.
