GP2 – Bianchi wins and warms up the Silverstone crowd
Silverstone, 9 July – Jules Bianchi took his first win of the season this afternoon at Silverstone, the fifth round of the GP2 series. The Lotus ART driver put on a dazzling show in the first race of the weekend. He started from pole as the field took the start behind the Safety Car, as yet more torrential rain hit the English circuit. The promising young student from Maranello’s Ferrari Driver Academy ably dominated the race from start to finish, fighting off a hard charging Christian Vietoris. The Frenchman and the German engaged in an amazing duel, with Bianchi coming out on top, before building up a substantial lead with a few laps remaining on his way to this first win of the season. Joining the top two on the podium was Marcus Ericsson, driving for the Spanish Sport International team.
The second and final race of the GP2 weekend takes place at 11.00 tomorrow, local time.
