FIA GT3 – An uphill weekend for the Ferraris at Navarra
Maranello, 3 July – The third round of the European FIA GT3 Championship held at Navarra this weekend did not produce the results hoped for by the four Ferrari entrants in the Spanish race. After a promising pole position for the AF Corse entered 458 Italia GT3 driven by Francesco Castellacci, the race ended with a seventh place ahead of another Ferrari, that of the Scuderia Vittoria crew of Giacomo Petrobelli and Carlos Iacomelli. Eleventh at the flag were Cameron Duncan and Matthew Griffin on the 458 Italia GT3 run by the Mtech team, while fourteenth was all on offer for the other AF Corse of Daniel Brown and Glynn Geddie.
Equally barren was Race 2, especially for the AF Corse Number 50 car (Leo-Castellacci) which had to make a long pit stop with a technical problem, a few minutes into the race, before coming home twenty third ahead of the Petrobelli-Iacomelli Scuderia Vittoria car. Best result was a sixth for Cameron-Griffin, a big improvement of their Race 1 showing.
The next round of the FIA GT3 series takes place at France’s Paul Ricard HTTT circuit at Le Castellet over the weekend of 17 July.
