Sebastian Vettel says he thinks Red Bull needs to improve if it is to challenge McLaren and Ferrari for victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Vettel was fifth quickest in the second session - which saw much quicker lap times than the first - and was a full 0.5s slower than Lewis Hamilton's pace-setting time. Having finished outside the top three for the first time this season in Germany, Vettel said that Red Bull does not hold the same advantage over the field as it did at the Hungaroring last season.

"It was pretty slippery at the beginning, but later on I felt okay in the car but I think it is not like last year," Vettel is quoted by Autosport. "It seems to be very tight. McLaren and Ferrari are very quick so I think we need to raise our game to make sure that we will find ourselves at the top as well."

Despite being half a second shy on low fuel, Vettel said that he was unsure how competitive Red Bull was compared to the other teams on the longer runs.

"Obviously I just got out of the car so we need to see what the others did, how long the tyres actually last. The most important thing to look out for is managing the tyres for one lap but equally trying to get everything out of the tyres for the whole stint and not have them fall apart too quickly. It will be a tough one."
