Performs demonstration runs at Mobil 1 Moscow City Racing event
The high-pitched scream of a Formula 1 engine echoed off the Kremlin’s walls in Moscow yesterday as Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Jenson Button took to the streets at the Mobil 1 Moscow City Racing event.
Jenson wowed the 100,000-strong crowd with two three-lap runs in a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-23, blasting across the Moskvoretsky Bridge with famous Muscovite landmarks in the background.
He said: “I’m very glad that thanks to Mobil 1, the technology partner of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team, I have been invited back to Russia and had the chance to race a new track in the very centre of Moscow. It was a great day and a lot of fun being involved in the Moscow City Racing event. It was really nice to see such number of show-goers and to meet my fans and fans of Formula 1 racing.”
The Moscow City Racing event has been held annually since 2008, and we’ve taken part since 2009 when Heikki Kovalainen did a demonstration run. Jenson took part last year, and was back for his second go yesterday.
Mobil 1 has engaged in a huge campaign to raise interest in Formula 1 in Russia and our team is also helping promote the sport ahead of the inaugural Russian Grand Prix in Sochi, which will be held in 2014.
