Your top photography spots at Silverstone

The Santander British Grand Prix is only a few days away now and the excitement amongst British fans is building as they ready themselves for the big event at their beloved and historic Silverstone circuit.

We’re hoping to put on a great show for you, as are Lewis and Jenson, who both adore the grand prix because of the nature of the circuit itself and the extraordinary home support they receive.

There’s no doubt many of you Vodafone McLaren Mercedes fans attending will be wondering where to take some awesome shots of our MP4-26s as they tear up the newly-reconfigured track.

Luckily for you we had a chat with one of the world’s best sports photographers, Darren Heath, about where you should go to shoot some amazing pictures.

Here are his top locations:

1. Club

Shoot the cars as they exit Club corner, using the brand-new Silverstone Wing pit and paddock building as a spectacular backdrop.

2. Becketts Complex

Aim your lens at the entrance to the Becketts complex of corners – it’s great for taking some impressive shots of cars changing direction at speed. Keep your eyes peeled for left sided tyres being pulled of their wheel rims!

3. Maggotts

Silverstone is great for shooting “big” skies – what I mean is there’s plenty of open space around, so use it as a photographic tool. Try shooting the inside of Maggotts corner with the cars approaching.

4. Copse

As above, Copse is great for the “big” sky effect. Shooting from the outside of the corner works best.

5. Luffield

Another great place to shoot is Luffield because the cars tend to bunch up together there and this makes for good action shots. There’s always a big crowd of fans at the corner which you can use as a colourful backdrop.

6. Abbey

Stand on the outside of the circuit and select a slow shutter speed – shoot the cars through the fence as they rush past the new Silverstone Wing. Use the scale of the structure and speed of the car to make an impactful picture.

We hope you find this insider information on where to take your best British Grand Prix shots handy! We’re going to be posting a gallery of the best fans’ photos on McLaren.com/formula1 the week after the race, so be sure to send in all your snaps to facebook.com/vodafonemclarenmercedes
