NICO DRIVES SILVER ARROW IN MUNICH OLYMPIC STADIUM

OTHER TEAM NEWS // 17.07.2011

On the Sunday before the Nürburgring weekend – the second of two consecutive home races for the team – Nico featured on the support programme of the first ever DTM show event.

In a contest spread over two days, the current crop of DTM drivers competed for the unofficial title of ‘DTM Indoor Champion’ on a 1.19km track that had been specially created for the event at the Olympic Stadium in Munich. “The DTM races were very exciting,” said Nico, “and it was amazing to see how close the drivers were getting to the barriers.”

At the end of the day, he was pleased to see his Mercedes-Benz DTM colleague Bruno Spengler (Mercedes-Benz Bank AMG Mercedes C-Class) clinch overall victory. But not content to watch the others drive around the circuit, Nico climbed into the cockpit of his Formula One Silver Arrow and entertained Sunday’s 40,000-strong crowd (54,000 over the whole weekend) with a ten-minute session of demo laps and donuts in this tightest of arenas.

“This whole DTM show event in Munich – and for me in particular the demonstration laps with my Formula One Silver Arrow – has been great fun,” said Nico. “The event was even bigger than I had imagined. What a great idea!”

Next weekend, Nico, Michael and the rest of the team will be focusing all their attention on the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. Nico is already fired up: “Now I’m looking forward to the next motorsport highlight in Germany: driving a Silver Arrow at the Nürburgring is a very special experience.”
