GOODTIMES AT GOODWOOD

on Jul 4, 2011

The Goodwood Festival of Speed was a busy weekend for Red Bull, but it also was as much fun for the team as it was for the thousands of fans that graced Lord March’s sprawling estate for the event.

Mark Webber, Christian Horner and Adrian Newey were all in attendance at the UK event, and it was a rare and special opportunity for the latter two to get to grips with the wheel of a racing car. Adrian made the famous hill climb in the Red Bull Running Showcar, and described the experience as: “Brilliant. I was lucky enough to drive an RB5 last year. To be back in an F1 car this year is fun; it feels good and I’m taking it very easy because I have no idea where the limit of the car is, but it’s great fun.”

Christian took to the hill in the Infiniti M35h, and spent time catching up with some motorsport heroes: “I was a big Nigel Mansell fan when I was growing up so it’s fun to see Nigel and spend a bit of time with him. For any fan of any form of motorsport, whether it’s rallying, F1 or motorbike racing, Goodwood is an exceptional place to come to get close to the action.”

Mark also relished the opportunity to catch up with fellow drivers in between outings in the Running Showcar: “There’s always a couple of amazing heroes here every year and I’ve been lucky to meet most of them. It’s great to be able to shake their hand and tell them what you think of them. Goodwood brings a huge cast of different people from around the globe on both two and four wheels so, as a racing fan, it’s good to be here.”

As well as driving, Mark, Adrian and Christian attended Q&A sessions, during which the floor was opened to fans for questions. Also there were Red Bull athletes form difference disciplines such as trials mountain biker Danny Macaskil, moto trials champion Dougie Lampkin and BMX rider Kye Forte.

At the festival for the first time at the festival were representatives from the Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation, of which Mark, Sebastian and David Coulthard are all ambassadors.
