WEBBER MAKES HIS MARK IN GERMANY. AGAIN.

on Jul 23, 2011

With a touch of neat symmetry Mark took pole in Germany this afternoon – just as Seb had been P1 in Melbourne. And the man in between our drivers in Australia? Lewis Hamilton. Same as today.

Clearly a man who likes this track, Mark put himself out of reach of the pack on his second Q3 run around the ‘RIng, while Hamilton and Sebastian were followed by the Ferraris of Alonso and Massa.

Lewis’ surprisingly quick time (even he appeared taken aback in the subsequent press conference), means that Sebastian isn’t on the front row for the first time this season. And, Mark’s excellent qualifying form continues from Silverstone. He was rightly pleased with his afternoon’s work: “I don’t think I could have got more out of it – it was my limit. I will be in there pushing very hard tomorrow.”

His boss was equally impressed, describing Webber’s performance as ‘fantastic’ and his lap as ‘phenomenal’. And it marks another milestone for the team, as Christian pointed out: “It was an excellent team performance and first and third, our tenth pole of the year and our 30th overall, is good work for the start of the weekend.”

The one factor likely to influence the race and over which we have no influence is of course the weather. Currently it’s just cold, tomorrow the weather symbol is clouds with rain. As Sebastian said: “Rain is forecast, but we don’t know how much we will have and when. In the end it doesn’t really matter, the most important thing is that we have a solid race.”

And that’ll go for both our drivers.
