WEATHER OR NOT…

All season long, Scuderia Toro Rosso has been locked in battle with Sauber, Williams and Force India and in many ways, it’s been as interesting a fight as the one at the front of the field.

Force India definitely came off best today in qualifying for tomorrow’s German Grand Prix, with Adrian Sutil as high as eighth on the grid, while both our drivers – Sébastien Buemi sixteenth and Jaime Alguersuari seventeenth - are sandwiched between the two Saubers of Sergio Perez in fifteenth spot and Kamui Kobayashi in eighteenth. Our two drivers opted for different set-ups based on their opinion as to what tomorrow’s weather might hold, given you cannot change settings on the car, or not many of them, in between qualifying and the race: Seb is running more downforce, assuming that rain will play a part, while Jaime’s car is better suited to having 60 laps in the dry on Sunday. It doesn’t make a huge difference, but it’s one more interesting element in what promises to be an exciting afternoon.

For the second race in a row, pole position has gone to Mark Webber and this time, amazing but true, Sebastian Vettel is way down the order in…..third place, his worst qualifying of the season! Splitting the two Red Bulls is Lewis Hamilton in the McLaren, with Fernando Alonso on the outside of Row 2 in fourth place for Ferrari. Fifth is the Spaniard’s team-mate Felipe Massa, who has Nico Rosberg alongside him in the Mercedes.

As has been the case at every Grand Prix this season, the pattern of the race is hard to predict, because each venue is another new experience with KERS, DRS and Pirelli tyres. Here at the Nurburgring, the Medium tyres seem to last a very long time, which could suggest a one stop strategy as the way to go. However, if the rain materialises tomorrow afternoon then all bets are off and anything could happen.
