Chile's players celebrate after their 1-0 triumph against Peru on Tuesday.
(CNN) -- Chile and Uruguay are through to the quarterfinals of the 2011 Copa America after both teams picked up 1-0 wins on Tuesday to advance from Group C.
Claudio Borghi's Chile finished top of the group after they defeated Peru in Mendoza, thanks to Andre Carrillo's own-goal in the last minute of stoppage time at the end of the match.
Both teams finished the contest at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas with 10-men, after Chile's Jean Beausejour and Peru's Giancarlo Carmona were dismissed following a mass brawl after 61 minutes.
Peru are also guaranteed a place in the next round as one of the two best-performing third-place teams, having acquired four points in the group stage.
Uruguay condemned Gold Cup winners Mexico to their first group-stage elimination in the competition's history with a 1-0 win in La Plata.
World Cup semifinalists Uruguay scored the only goal of the game in the 15th minute when full-back Alvaro Pereira tapped home from close range following a save from goalkeeper Luis Michel.
Mexico rarely threatened Fernando Muslera's goal and Diego Forlan should have doubled Uruguay's lead after a cross from Liverpool's Luis Suarez, but the Atletico Madrid striker could only fire over the cross bar from inside the penalty area.
Uruguay will now face hosts Argentina in the last eight, after Sergio Batista's team finish second in Group A.
Wednesday's matches will see Group B reach a conclusion as Brazil take on Ecuador in Cordoba needing a draw to avoid an early exit from the tournament.
Ecuador, coached by Reinaldo Rueda, know a victory would put them into the knockout phase of the competition.
Venezuela, who are already assured of their place in the next round and currently sit top of the group, meet Paraguay in Salta.
Gerardo Martino's Paraguay will secure their passage into the quarterfinals with a draw.
