(CNN) -- Liverpool have continued their pre-season spending spree by signing Brazilian international goalkeeper Alexander Doni from Roma on Friday.
Doni's arrival comes just two days after the Anfield club agreed a fee with Aston Villa for the transfer of England winger Stewart Downing, and a week after Scottish midfielder Charlie Adam arrived from Blackpool.
The 31-year-old Doni spent six seasons in the Italian capital, having previously had spells with Corinthians, Santos and Cruzeiro, and will now compete with Spanish international Jose Reina for the Liverpool number one spot.

Doni was part of Brazil's Copa America winning squad in 2007 and has represented his country on 11 occasions.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has now brought in four new faces ahead of the 2011-12 campaign, with England under-21 midfielder Jordan Henderson completing the quartet of new arrivals.
Meanwhile, according to reports in the British press, Villa have lined up Wigan's Charles N'Zogbia as a direct replacement for the departing Downing.
The French international has one year left on his contract at the DW Stadium and could fill the void left at Villa Park by Downing and fellow-winger Ashley Young, who joined Manchester United in June.
Elsewhere, Inter Milan have confirmed the signing of Brazilian full-back Jonathan from Santos.
The 25-year-old had been training with Gian Piero Gasperini's squad and has signed a four-year deal at the San Siro.
